Wildfire reaches some of Kitt Peak’s famous telescopes

A major wildfire in Arizona poses a serious threat to key astronomy.

Keith Peak National Observatory, in the south of the state, includes more than two dozen telescopes and has hosted astronomers for more than six decades. But now the site is facing a fire in Contreras, which began on June 11 and is constantly growing due to strong winds and very dry vegetation.
