De Boer was relieved of his duties by the Vegas Golden Knights on May 16 after missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in the franchise’s history. DeBoer trained the Golden Knights for two and a half years, setting a record of 98-50-12. He previously coached San Jose, New Jersey and Florida.

The coaching position of the stars is vacant since they came out of the first round of the playoffs. Rick Bownes retired after eliminating Dallas from the Calgary Flames in seven games.

This move follows a number of hired coaches in the league in recent days. To date, the Islanders (Lane Lambert), Flyers (John Tortorella) and Golden Knights (Bruce Cassidy) have found new coaches, while the Red Wings, Jets and Bruins are still looking.
