Omaha, Nebraska – The No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies advanced to the semifinals of the College World Series after eliminating Notre Dame on Tuesday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, 5-1.

Aggies took advantage of several errors in Notre Dame, including a stop and a throwing error, to give them a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

In the fifth inning, Trevor Werner’s lead sparked a two-run race as the lead rose to 5-0.

Four days after being burdened with a loss at the start of the CWS, Nathan Dettmer (6-3) was sent off for Aggies to win. He spun 7.0 blank shots, scattering three hits and one hit batsman until he hit six. He struck from the first field to 21 of the 26 fighters he faced. This was the fourth time in 2022 that Detmer ran at least 6.0 innings without giving up.

Dettmer became Aggie’s first pitcher to make 7.0 zero innings in a College World Series match.

Joseph Menefee came in as a relief with two on base and brought Aggies out of the lull, erasing one and causing a double play to get out of the inning. Menefee went on to strike out two in the 2.0 innings of work and win his second save of the year.

Aggies won numerous games in the College World Series for the first time in seven trips. Their two victories in 2022 correspond to their result from the previous six transitions to Omaha.

Jim Schlossnagel became only the fourth coach to record a number of CWS victories in many schools, joining Larry Kochel, Oggy Garrido and Andy Lopez.
