Sean Hatoshi and Leila George

After six successful seasons, Animal kingdom will end and its final season is set to begin on June 19, 2022 on TNT. Based on the eponymous Australian neo-noir crime drama of 2010, the series carved its own path as part of a captivating television that took fans on a hell of a journey full of twists, turns and surprises.

The series followed by a 17-year-old boy, Joshua “J” Cody (Finn Cole), who after his mother’s death moved in with his estranged relatives Cody, a criminal family business run by Matriarch Janine “Smurf” Cody (Ellen Barkin). As we enter this sixth and final season, “The Cody boys find that they can’t escape their past. With the expansion of their empire, a cold investigation into the case marks the beginning of a series of events that put the whole family in danger. Revenge, betrayal and retribution with long-forgotten violence lead to an explosive end to six seasons in the making.

I had the pleasure of talking to Sean Hatoshi, who plays Andrew “Papa” Cody, and Layla George, who plays the younger Janine “Smurf” Cody in retrospectives starting in the fourth season to fill in aspects of her background. Both artists were very pleasant to talk to and you can say that they are really proud of their work in the series. Hatoshi has been there from the beginning, so he thought the ending was a bit bitter, he also talked about what it’s like to direct episodes of the show, including episodes starring Leila George. Since her character is portrayed in retrospect, she can’t do anything with the boys right now, so she said working with Hatoshi while he led her was an amazing experience.

The last season of Animal kingdom premieres of June 19, 2022at 21:00 EST / PST on TNT
