Rivals100 DE Keldric Faulk decommits to FSU

With a commitment from the defensive end Keldrick Folk, State of Florida landed its highest-ranked 2023 recruit yet. The Rivals100 prospect from Highland Home, Ala. picked the Seminoles over similar teams Clemson, Floridaand chestnut.

“Over a long period of time, I had to build a relationship with them,” Faulk said. “They proposed as soon as COVID hit the first time, and we’ve been getting to know them steadily from that point until now.

“Coach JP doesn’t always call to talk to me,” he said. “He’s calling to talk to my mom and say hello to my brother. We’ve been talking for a while, so when he does now, he talks to my mom too.

“It’s just the feeling I get when I go there,” Faulk said. “I feel like they’re trying to pull this program in the right direction and I feel like it’s something I can be a part of.

“I want to get this program back to what it was from 2010 to 2014,” he said. “They were competing for the national championship. It was a good program back in the day and that’s what I want to bring back.”

Florida State needed to land an elite quarterback this year, and that’s exactly what they’re getting in Faulk. He has all the measurables of an ideal edge defender with big play power and a big arsenal of pass rushers. Faulk still has room to fill out his frame more, but he has the skill set to play right away in certain situations. With his 6-foot-10 wingspan, Faulk does a good job of breaking free from offensive linemen and finding the ball carrier quickly. He can easily get away from blockers using a combination of strength, hand techniques and balance that only elite defenders possess. Florida State’s coaching staff did a great job staying consistent with Faulk throughout the recruiting process, and those efforts paid off in a big way.
