Phil Mickelson’s 31st appearance at the US Open was not for memory books.

Mickelson dropped out of the event after two rounds, missing the cut with the ugly 11-over-denomination 151 at The Country Club in Brooklyn, Massachusetts.

Mickelson shot 8 over 78 in the first round on Thursday and had a good chance he could get out of that hole. He scored 3 over 73 on Friday before analyzing his poor performance.

“I thought I was better prepared than I was,” Mickelson told reporters. “The US Open is the best test. And you don’t really know where your game is until you’re tested, and I thought I was a little closer than I was. “

Mickelson, who turned 52 on Thursday, had five carts against two birds in the second round and complained about his poor placement. He felt that his play on the wavy green areas cost him opportunities to publish better rounds on the Boston field.

“I really struggled with the placement,” Mickelson said. “I’m struggling with the release, last week and this week. I feel like I’m definitely playing better than I score and I’m looking forward to working on that. “

Last week was Mickelson’s first raid LIV Golf Invite Series and ended in a draw for 33rd place.

Mickelson has drawn significant criticism for his jump from the PGA Tour to the Saudi-backed LIV tour, and has also sharply criticized PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. He cited “incredible financial commitment” as the main reason for the move.

The six-time grand champion has never won the US Open. He finished second on his own three times and tied second in three other cases.

Although he has never been hunting this year, he said he is grateful to play in this year’s event.

“I was pleased to be back here,” Mickelson said. “What I liked most was playing on such a historic golf course and setting it up so remarkably. I think USGA really did a good job. That really showed this historic place. “

Mickelson started Friday’s round of the back nine and things started to bottom out when he made three straight holes (13, 14, 15).

He later pulled out No. 4 before making birds on each of the next two holes. Then there was another tobacco of No. 7 before finishing with two pairs.

One of the strangest moments in his round was when Mickelson’s wrong shot with the one in the third hole hit a fan standing by the fairway. The man was originally on his back and holding his head.

A few minutes later, the fan was holding an ice pack on his head as Mickelson pulled over to shake his hand.

Mickelson said he plans to play in the LIV event in Portland in two weeks. He is removed from PGA Tour as well as other golfers who chose to go to the rival golf league.
