PBA: TNT retreats, passing first loss to Meralco

MANILA, Philippines – TNT returned to its winning streak on Saturday after a 78-71 victory over Meralco in the PBA Philippine Cup 2022 on Saturday night at the Ynares Center in Antipollo City.

Tropang Giga scored 19 points from Roger Pogoi and another 16 from Troy Rosario. Poi Eram threw 13, while Jason Castro 10 as the defending champion raised his record to 3-2.

Meralco proved to be a great success after 20 points by Allein Maliksi. Chris Newsom and Bong Quinto added 13 each, while Chris Banchero added 12 in the club’s first loss in three games.

Relief is now within the reach of TNT, as Chot Reyes revealed that top scorer Mikey Williams is on his way back to the Philippines – a sign that contract negotiations have finally been resolved.

Tropang Giga hopes to build a series with Fil-Am’s guard when he plays Rain or Shine Thursday next week.

Meralco, meanwhile, is shooting for a rebound against NorthPort in the curtain on this game date.

Meralco 71 – Malixi 20, Newsom 13, Quinto 13, Banchero 12, Hodge 6, Diamond 5, Hugnatan 2, Baklao 0, Pascual 0, Jose 0, Karam 0.
