‘Miss. Marvel’s lead writer says changes to MCU power have been “hotly debated”

Bisha K. Ali, the main writer of Miss. a miracle for Disney Plus said that the changes in the series in the strength of the hero were not made lightly by anyone at Marvel Studios.

Miss. a miracle introduces Kamala Khan to Iman Velani at MCU, telling the story of her origins as the young superhero, Mrs. A miracle. In Marvel comics, Kamala has the power to stretch and reshape his body (similar to Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four), while in the Disney Plus series, this has changed to the ability to produce structures with “hard light”. The change in the power of the MCU proved to be controversial with some fans. Bisha K. Ali said the decision was heavily discussed at Marvel Studios and was ultimately taken to better integrate the character’s story into the MCU.

Kamala Khan’s entry into the MCU came at a very different time from her entry into the comics. In the comics, her powers appeared when Terrigen Mist, the substance that activates the Inhumans superpowers, was released around the world. However, after MCU’s Inhumans the series is bombed, these characters have had a reduced role on the screen. Instead, Kamala’s forces will be more closely tied to her character, Carol Danvers and Monica Rambo – the other “Wonders” that will appear with Iman Velani’s Kamala Khan next year. Miracles.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the new Marvel series, Bisha K. Ali touched on the change in Kamala’s powers. The lead author explained that it is important to give Kamala strengths that are related to her personal history and journey of self-discovery:

“It’s a big old question and look, I understand the mood. I’m also a fan of comics and I know what it’s like to be a fan. It was a huge decision. Certainly I wasn’t swinging and saying, “Let’s throw up our strength!” That’s not my mood at all.

“It was a great conversation between me and Kevin [Feige, president of Marvel Studios] and Sana, from the very beginning, how we translate this on screen. The thing that was really vital to me was that in the comics, her strengths are inherently related to her inner journey – how she feels about herself, how she orients herself in the world, how she perceives herself. Whatever we changed them had to have the same connection to her psychology and the journey she was going through and the way she saw herself. I think we really achieved that. I think if the fans can give him a chance, they can see our reasoning.

“The other part of it is Marvel’s review of all this and how we have this legacy of visual storytelling at MCU. This is a different story from the one in the comics. What is important for Kamala in this show and in the future is that everything is connected and connected. So the changes in power were hotly debated.

Allusions to Kamala’s original forces did so Miss. a miracle – she used her powers of hard light to create a huge hand, reflecting her ability to “excite” the comics – but it sounds like the change in power came about for a good reason. Marvel Studios had previously deviated from their source material when they saw the possibility of a stronger story, so fans probably shouldn’t have to worry about the changes the studio has made on this occasion.
