Meta is launching an avatar shop, and designer clothes are the first products

If you’ve ever thought, “I’d like my digital avatar to wear bad-looking designer clothes,” I have great news for you.

It’s a target launch an online store where Facebook, Instagram and Messenger users can purchase digital clothing for their avatar. The first brands in the store are Prada, Balenciaga and Thom Browne, and the clothes include a motocross team, a hood with a logo and costumes.

In a Facebook post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said more brands would be added soon.

“Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a major driver of the creative economy,” he said.

Luxury fashion houses are increasingly partnering with technology companies to create branded digital clothing. Last year, Fortnite introduced Balenciaga skins so players can buy clothes like a branded hood for their characters in the game. IN Robloxplayers can visit The city of Guccicomplete with garden with the brand logo and a virtual store.

Despite the big names at the launch of Meta, the news fell quietly this afternoon and the company did not immediately respond to a request for more details. Meta says the store will launch “soon”, although information on how consumers will have access to the store was not immediately available. We hope that digital clothes will cost less than real ones. In a live broadcast today, Eva Chen, director of fashion partnerships on Instagram, visualized a look that included a cropped T-shirt, low-rise jeans and a white belt worn over Zuckerberg’s avatar.

“I don’t know if I could ever achieve that,” he said. I agree!
