Lorde is releasing a music video for The Path, discussing reviews for Solar Power.

One year after the official release of her third studio album.Solar energy“- and on the day of the summer solstice – Lord share new music video to open album “The road“Along with a statement addressing the mixed response to the album.

Lord announced the music video “The Path” to fans through his newsletter. Although the video is the sixth to come from the album, Lord called it “the first chapter of the mystical story” Solar Energy “, a prequel to the title video.” The visual sees Lord on the same beach as the video for the lead single “Solar Power”. As she walks around the beach campsites, she takes off her wide gray suit for casual yellow clothing and is eventually joined by other beach dwellers dancing.

When it came out last August, Solar Power received mixed reviews from critics. Although Diversity senior music critic Chris Willman writes in his review that the star “has performed one of the most difficult stunts in pop music: to make a happy album that is a good album”, many other reviewers were more ambivalent, considering the album “insufficient” (The Daily Telegraph) and its ‘least vital project’ (Rotate). In his bulletin, Lord confirmed the answer, calling the experience “sometimes painful to sit on.”

“It’s been a year since I announced the release of Solar Power. I can honestly say that this was the year with the highest peaks and lowest declines that I think I have ever experienced. It took people a while to get the album – I still get emails every day from people who have just come around for it! “And that answer was really confusing and sometimes painful to sit down at first,” Lord wrote. “I learned a lot about myself and how they perceive me when I made and released this album, and I feel much more connected and alive in my artistic practice and life than almost ever. Sounds dry, but it’s true !!! ”

Despite the mixed response, Lord said she was grateful for the album and the fans who supported it, saying it was “necessary” for her evolution as an artist.

“I was recently sitting with a friend drinking tea at a country house in England, she’s also an artist, and we kind of got on with the theme of the album. She said: “Obviously it’s one of those works that is made between peaks, the kind that creators sometimes need, no less valuable, in fact there can be no peaks without such works.” I think that’s true for the record, ”said Lord. Playing songs from “SP” live every night in what is undoubtedly my best live show ever is also an amazing feeling – everything makes sense there, both for you and for me, in a new and bright way. way. And thanks to “SP”, I was able to process some great personal things that made it a lot harder for me to do things like travel or play shows without being completely overwhelmed. “

Lorde is currently on tour to promote Solar Power, and the newsletter was written during a recent stop in Croatia, where her mother is from. Watch the full music video for The Path below.
