The last: The United States is hoping for upcoming military assistance from western Ukraine – along with Russia’s growing isolation on the world stage – will exhaust President Vladimir Putin’s will to fight. The danger of Russia devouring its neighbor and fomenting revanchist ambitions is so great that officials from the Biden administration say they have ready to risk global economic shocks which may accompany a protracted war.
The battle: The slowly recovering Russian army is achieving gradual success in eastern Ukraine against valiant but under-equipped Ukrainian forces. The United States and its allies are vying supply the vast quantities of weapons that Ukrainians urgently need if they want to keep the Russians at bay.
