Kim Kardashian, Jessica Chastain and more women who ‘cancelled’ Independence Day this year!

Sorry, patriotic partygoers and fireworks. For many women, the Fourth of July was “cancelled” this year.

Last month said Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that protected women’s right to abortion nationwide. It’s a terrible decision that will make getting this important health care option even more difficult and dangerous in many states across the US — especially for women in poor and marginalized communities.

Understandably, many women were in no mood to celebrate Independence Day over the weekend, given the fact that many of them were simply deprived of their freedom over their own bodies due to this controversial decision. That includes many celebrities who took to social media on Monday to express exactly how they feel about the holiday in light of what happened. Several women, including Kim Kardashian and Kris Jennershared a post from @bitton which reads:

“July 4 was canceled due to lack of independence. Sincerely, Jenny.”

Katy Perry mentioned a popular song of hers Fireworks (which has become the other unofficial anthem for the holiday) to make a statement:

“Honey you’re a firework is a 10 but women in the US have less rights than a real sparkler smh”

Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain get her message just by holding up two middle fingers on a shared photo Instagram. She also wrote in the caption:

“Happy ‘Independence’ Day to me and my reproductive rights.”

Always the iconic one Madonna shared a chilling black-and-white video of a woman being dragged by armed guards. She also called for a “revolution” in the caption, stating:

“This is what life looks like if you’re a woman in America. It’s not Independence Day for us. Let’s start a revolution!”

Brooklyn Decker noted that she brings “both an abundance of gratitude and a rush of anger” to the celebration, saying:

“I know I share this with so many of you. Let’s keep up our fury to push this complicated country forward, not further back.”

Zooey Deschanel released a photo of himself wearing a “Pro Roe 1973” t-shirt, sharing with his followers on Twitter that the outfit is “for when you want to wish America a happy birthday, but you also want her to do better.”

Continuing to celebrate the holiday, Lisa Rinna reminded her followers of the importance of continuing to fight for women’s rights after Roe v. Wade. Along with a video from Jane Eliot, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star wrote:

“While you’re in between cocktails and hot dogs celebrating the 4th, remember that Roe V Wade was overturned. That’s why. #janeelliott Don’t let them take away ALL OUR RIGHTS.”

Hopping around on Instagram, Face chose to take action on the Fourth of July by announcing that her uniform carries a line Iiti will donate all proceeds from the weekend to abortion rights funds:

Glad to see so many people using their platform and speaking out. Reactions, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments (below).
