Jon Stewart criticized the Supreme Court’s choice to overturn Roe v. Wade – deadline

John Stewart publicly condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the landmark case of Roe v. Wade which made abortion a constitutional right in America.

In his show, The Jon Stewart problem, the comedian said the Supreme Court is the “Fox News of justice.” He continues: “I mean there’s no consistency. States can’t regulate guns, but they can [uteruses]you know?”

The decision overturns 50 years of precedent from the landmark 1973 case that gave US women the right under federal law to terminate a pregnancy, and a subsequent 1992 decision, Planned Parenthood v. Casey that he largely upheld the law. The decision sparked protests across the country.

“It’s a cynical pursuit in the same way that Fox News will come up with ‘we’re fair and balanced’ under the patina of what would be a high-profile pursuit of improving society, journalism,” he said. “They are a cynical political weapon.

He also criticized the confirmation process, calling it “kabuki theater”

“When you look at the ridiculous kabuki theater of confirmation justice now, where they can just go out there and just lie the hell out of it like it was a debate, then they would know what perjury is,” he said.
