ISP is investigating after a mob attacked a squad car on I-90 near Division Street

CHICAGO (CBS) – Illinois State Police are investigating after a mob attacked a patrol car on I-90 near Division Street on Sunday.

Around 2 a.m., an ISP employee was driving southbound and noticed the exit jammed and eastbound traffic completely stopped.

The officer approached the intersection of Division and Elston, where several vehicles were blocking the intersections and others were performing stunts, ISP said.

Dashcam video shows a crowd of about 100 people starting to rush the ISP squad car – jumping on the hood, throwing rocks, bricks, fireworks and smashing the windshield.

ISP is fully investigating the incident, including deploying crime scene evidence technicians.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call the ISP District Chicago office at 847-294-4400.

The ISP says to leave the area immediately and contact law enforcement if you see this type of behavior.
