In The Spider-Verse, the directors reveal the role of Spot

Joaquim Dos Santos and Camp Powers, directors of the upcoming Spider-Man: On the other side of Spider-Verserevealed more information about the role that Jason Schwartzman’s Spot will play in the film.

It was recently revealed that the long – awaited continuation of 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will include Spot, a little-known Spider-Man villain with the ability to create portals in space and dimensions. Given the villainous ensemble in the first film, it was unclear how big the Spot would play in Beyond Spider-Versebut now the film’s directors have confirmed that he will be the film’s “main villain” and have talked about what makes it so suitable for the animated sequel.

Talk to about Spider-Man: On the other side of Spider-Verse, Joaquim Dos Santos and Camp Powers confirmed that their plan was for Spot to serve as the film’s main antagonist from the beginning of development. They also touched on the psychedelic design of the character with “living ink” and why he was a great enemy for Miles Morales and the one who belongs to the animation.

Explaining the Spot’s place in the story, Joaquim Dos Santos spoke of the character as the opposite of Miles Morales and extended the nature of the character’s unique design by saying:

“We knew quite early that Spot would be our main villain. Without a great villain, which you can somehow understand through their line, you don’t really have a strong story about your main character. So he’s the great opposite of Miles.

“And his living ink is really simple, I think we’ve all said, it’s like an effect, it’s an artistry that comes to life. This is something that can really only happen in animation. If you can imagine Spot, as a dude in a suit with socks, in action Spider Man movie will not work. It just won’t happen. So he revives art. It is the inkwell spilled on the page. Everything goes back to a kind of comics and the art of comics. ”

Camp Powers echoed the potential that comes with Spot visualizations and his character, while revealing that the character is not wearing a suit, but has been transformed into the dotted figure seen in the previously published image:

“The Spot, from the beginning, it just seemed like endless potential, both visually and the character’s rainbow. By the way, this is not a suit, this is his skin… Not a man in a dotted suit! This is actually his skin. So you know, the rainbow of Dr. Ohnn, Spot, is the one who really complements, without revealing the story, Miles’ journey in this film really well. “

Fans of 1994 Spider-Man: The animated series you may remember Spot as the villain of one episode that was really only included to help create a broader plot. The character has never before been presented as a major threat to Spider-Man, so Beyond Spider-Verse it seems to be stepping on new ground and giving the Spot a deadly credit.
