How to download photos from Google Photos

Google Photos makes it easy download one or more photos from your account to your devices. You can also download all your photos and videos at once using Google’s Takeout service. We will show you how to use these options on your desktop and mobile phone.

Note that if you are on a desktop computer, you can download both individual and multiple photos at once. However, you can only download one photo at a time on a mobile phone.

Save photos from Google Photos to your desktop

To download one or more photos on your desktop, first launch a web browser on your computer and open Google Photos site. Log in to your account if you haven’t already.

When the photo site launches, click Photos in the left sidebar to see all your photos.

Choose "Photos" to the left.

To download an individual photo, then in the right pane, click the photo to download. When your photo is full screen, click the three dots in the upper right corner.

Select the three points in the upper right corner.

In the three-point menu, click “Download” to download the photo to your computer.

Choose "Download" in the menu.

If you want to save multiple photos, click the check mark icon in the upper left corner of the photo. Then select other photos to add to your download selection.

Choose a few photos.

When you select the photos to download, in the upper right corner of the site, click the three dots and select “Download.”

And that’s it. The photos you selected are now saved on your computer for offline access. Enjoy!

Download images from Google Photos to your mobile phone

Use the free Google Photos app to download a photo to your mobile device.

Get started by launching Google Photos on your phone. In the bottom bar of the app, tap Photos.

Choose "Photos" on the bottom.

On the Photos screen, select the photo to download. Then tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the photo screen.

Select the three points in the upper right corner.

In the menu that starts, select “Download”.

Note: If you see “Delete from device” instead of “Download”, the photo you selected is now available on your phone. In this case, check the gallery on your phone to find your photo.

Choose "Download."

And Google Photos will start downloading your photo to your phone.

Download all photos and videos from Google Photos

If you want to back up all your photos and videos stored in Google Photos, use Google’s Takeout service to download all your files to your device immediately.

To use this method, first launch a web browser on your device and open it Google Takeout site. Log in to your account if necessary.

Once logged in, you will see a list of services from which you can download data to your device. Deselect all of these services here by clicking Remove All.

Scroll down the services page to find Google Photos. Then activate this service by checking the box next to it.

Activate "Google Photos" option.

Scroll down the page to the bottom and click “Next Step”.

Choose "next step" on the bottom.

On the next page, click the Delivery Method drop-down menu and select Send Email Download Link. This will give you a link to download your Google Photos archive.

In the “Frequency” section, select “Export once”. Click the “File type” drop-down menu and select “ZIP. ” Then click on the “Size” drop-down menu and select “2 GB”.

Finally, at the bottom of the page, click “Create Export”.

Google Takeout will begin creating a ZIP file of all your photos and videos stored in Google Photos. Once this file is ready, you will receive an email with a link to download the file.

And this way you make all your photos and videos available locally on your desktop computer and mobile phones. Enjoy easy and fast access to your content!
