How a local company uses an important stage to help children

Cleveland – The basis of every light night’s rest is a good mattress, and yet not everyone has this basic need. Therefore, to celebrate its 100th anniversary of business in Northeast Ohio, the White Dove Mattress donated 100 mattresses to the Cleveland Furniture Bank.

Made in Cleveland for Cleveland. This is a legacy built by a man who wanted to give people a good night’s sleep.

“Started by my great-grandfather in 1922. I’ve always been to Cleveland, always a factory, always run by a member of my family,” said Bruce Goodman, president of the White Dove Mattress at 3201 Harvard Avenue.

The White Dove Mattress team is constantly finding ways to implement and develop its products to better serve the community. It is this approach, combined with the desire to continue the family heritage, that has supported this mattress company in business for 100 years.

“A hundred years is a long time, at least in my book,” Goodman said. “We thought it was a good opportunity to do something for the community, and since it’s been 100 years, we thought 100 beds would make sense.

To mark this milestone, White Dove has partnered with the Cleveland Future Bank Children’s Beds initiative, which provides beds for children in Northeast Ohio.

“We were involved with the furniture bank a few years ago, so we were aware of their Children’s Beds program, where they have beds especially for young children who find it awful to think in this world that they don’t have their own beds to sleep on.” said Goodman.

One hundred double mattresses will be donated to the Cleveland Furniture Bank. They also donate 100 springs and frames for 100 beds in addition to 100 mattresses.

“We know how to make mattresses, but we don’t know how to find the people who need them. They know how to find the people who need them, but they don’t know how to do them. So, together, it’s a win-win, “Goodman said.

Giving is a great feeling.

… The smile on the faces of these children, when for some of them for the first time in their lives they have their own bed … you know, no matter how heavy the whole day may be, at the end of the day they have their own space … to go to sleep well, “he said.

Approximately 40 employees took the time to make the mattresses. It took them about 6 to 7 hours to make. Goodman said much of the material was donated by their suppliers, many of whom are local companies.

“We’re doing this to make a living, we’re trying to help people sleep better,” Goodman said. “But the idea that people don’t have a bed of their own is a scary thought. And the fact that we can only do a small part in helping to cope means a lot to all of us.”
