Last year Tesla announced plans to open its fast Supercharger network for all EVs instead of just its own vehicles. The first deployment started in the Netherlandsthen all EVs in Europeand now Elon Musk is sharing details about how he will work in the United States.
At a recent Future of Cars conference, Elon Musk answered some questions about the launch of Supercharger and should excite all electric car owners. One specific video posted on Twitter confirms that Tesla is likely to add industry-standard CCS connectors to its charging stations in the United States.

Earlier, Elon Musk mentioned that the company will add a Tesla adapter to CCS, also known as a CHAdeMO adapter. However, it now looks like the company could have an even better plan and will add full CCS connectors to all supercharging stations in North America.
Here’s what Musk had to say:
“In the US, it’s a little harder because we have a different connector from the rest of the industry, but we’ll add the rest of the industry connectors as an option to US Superchargers.” Then he went on to say, “we are trying our best to do the right thing for the progress of electrification, even if it reduces our competitive advantage. ”
For those who don’t know, Tesla uses its own connector on both vehicles and charging stations in North America. This makes it so that other electric cars from Ford, Rivian, Hyundai and others cannot take advantage of its faster charging stations. As a result, Tesla owners have to charge from a Tesla-compatible station.
In Europe and many other regions, almost all EVs and chargers use the same CCS connector, similar to the way all modern Android phones have USB-C, which makes things easier and ensures that every EV owner can charge each station. In Europe, Tesla has adopted this new standard, but it is not in the state.
We’re not sure if the new Supercharger stations will get both Tesla and CCS connectors in the United States if they add them to existing Superchargers or stick to adapters for those who need one.
Elon Musk has not shared a schedule for when he will add CCS connectors to US Superchargers, but we will follow for more information.
