Grizzlies GM Zach Kleiman wins CEO of the Year

Grizzlies general manager Zack Kleiman was named NBA Executive Director of the Year for 2021-22 press release.

Jerry West is the only former Grizzlies CEO to receive the award for his work in the 2003-04 season. The statement said 33-year-old Kleiman was the youngest recipient of the award in its history. The NBA has revealed that Kleiman won 16 of 29 possible votes in first place from his fellow NBA leaders, amassing a total of 85 points in his favor of the league’s voting system. Kleiman finished sixth when voting for the 2019-2020 season in the NBA.

Cavaliers president Kobe Altman and Bulls president Arturas Karnisovas each won 27 points, tying for second place as they led two long-standing lottery clubs back to the post-season with experienced moves. The Cavaliers did not advance from the playoffs, and the Bulls lost 4-1 to the Bucks in their first round match. The top five was rounded off by another tie as Suns General James Jones, NBA Executive Director of the Year 2020-21, and Heat President Pat Riley scored 26 points each. Both of their top-ranked clubs are leading their respective series from the semifinals of the conference 3-2 at the time of writing.

“It’s an organizational honor,” Kleiman said of the award in a Grizzlies press release. “I would not be in this position without it [owner] Robert [Pera]Vision and support of and I am grateful to pursue the NBA Championships in Memphis with such a driven and competitive group of players and staff. Thanks to my colleagues for this recognition. “

Thanks in part to Kleiman’s excellent work on the roster, Memphis finished with a 56-26 record in the Western Conference, leveling the club’s permanent franchise for regular season wins. Grizzly Playout Yes, Morant, selected by Murray State’s second pick in 2019, made his first all-star team and won the 2021-22 Best Player Award for his work this season. Morant was Kleiman’s first choice as CEO of Grizzlies, a role he has held since April 2019. Grizzlies first hired Kleiman to serve as their in-house legal counsel in 2015. He became GM’s assistant in the then-manufacturing decision. Chris Wallace in the 2018-19 season. Kleiman was later promoted after a restructured team moved Wallace to the role of scout.
