Florence Pew will star in the series “East of Paradise” for Netflix – deadline

EXCEPTIONAL: Netflix develops a limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel East of Eden s Zoe Kazan writing and executive production and Florence Pew attached to a star.

Sources told Deadline that the streamer received the post-war package for competitive bids. Anonymous Content and Endeavor Content are producing the series as part of a partnership revealed in March.

Netflix has no comment and acquaintances said that the series is still in early development.

Earlier, the novel was adapted as a film in 1955 with Zoe’s grandfather, Elijah Kazan, director of Warner Bros. The film was also remarkable in that it was James Dean’s first big screen role.

Steinbeck’s limited series adaptation of the epic novel will explore topics of trauma and recovery; love and betrayal; debt and free will. The series will sketch an intimate portrait of the Trask family against the backdrop of vast historical forces – or, as Steinbeck put it, “the history of my country and the history of me.”

“I fell in love with East of Eden when I first read it in my teens. Since then, adapting Steinbeck’s novel – the great, sprawling, three-generation whole of it – has been my dream. Most of all, I wanted to give full expression to the amazing, unique anti-heroine of the novel, Katie Ames, “said Kazan. “Florence Pew is our dream Cathy; I can’t imagine a more exciting actor to bring this character to life. Writing this limited series over the last two years has been the pinnacle of my life. I hope that with our partners in Netflix, Anonymous Content and Endeavor Content, we can do justice to this material – and shed new light on it for twenty-first century audiences.

Now the producers will try to broadcast Trask’s family, as well as find a director to direct the series.

This will be the first major television merit of Kazan, which previously wrote the functions Ruby Sparks and wild nature, which was directed by Paul Dano and starring Carrie Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal.
