Emmanuel Macron is ready to lose the majority

The centrist coalition backing French President Emmanuel Macron was expected to take the lead in Sunday’s key parliamentary elections, but a strong performance by the alliance of left-wing parties and far-right growth has hampered Mr Macron’s strength to secure an absolute majority of seats, a failure that could complicate his second term. New York Times reports.

“Estimates based on the preliminary counting of votes were given to Mr. Macron’s centrist coalition of 205 to 250 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly, the lower and more powerful house of parliament – more than any other political group, but less than half of all seats.
