Mobile phone plans come in all shapes and sizes nowadays and there are surprisingly strong choices that care directly for the elderly. Here’s everything you need to know about adult cell phone plans before you sign up.

What is an adult cell phone plan?

Mobile phone plans for the elderly are exactly what they sound like – mobile phone plans that are offered and created especially for the crowd of 55 years and older. Details vary by plan and operator, but more often you will find that senior plans are just standard plans that come with a slight discount.

For example, Magenta MAX on T-Mobile the plan usually costs $ 140 a month, but the discounted Magenta MAX 55+ offers the same service for only $ 135 a month. There are others, such as 55+ unlimited on Verizon a plan that is only available to Florida residents but costs only $ 60 a month.

Then there are some plans that change the age requirements, such as AT & T’s Senior Nation a plan that requires account holders to be at least 65 years old.

Like their standard counterparts, adult mobile phone plans are remarkably diverse. What they all have in common, however, is a reduced price for those of a certain age.

Is an adult cell phone plan better than a family plan?

Determining whether a plan for seniors is better than a family plan is not as simple as you think. Many adult plans require only one person in the account to be 55 or older – but some also come with strict limits on how many rows can be in a plan. This means that you will first need to determine your monthly budget, general line requirements, and data limits before making a firm decision.

In general, large families can be better served with a standard family plan. They usually have fewer restrictions than adult cell phone plans, and you can easily register the whole family without worrying about additional costs or data restrictions.

Families that don’t require a lot of data or are limited to just two people are great contenders for most elderly cell phone plans. Regardless of family size or data needs, it is still important to compare all plans and decide which one is best for your family. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for cell phone plans, and a senior plan may be the best option for a large (or growing) family.

What plans do today’s leading carriers offer?

After looking at the best standard cell phone plans on the market, here are some great adult plans to look at below. Adult mobile phone plans are offered by most major operators, although the options listed below are usually the most popular, offer the biggest discounts and work in networks that cover most of the nation.

T-Mobile Essentials 55+

Just $ 27.50 a month in a row with two lines, this is one of the best (and cheapest) adult plans on the market. You’ll get access to T-Mobile’s 5G network, along with unlimited talk, text and data – although you’ll be limited to standard definition streaming.

T-Mobile Magenta 55+

This mid-level plan runs $ 35 a month on two lines and offers some nice advantages over the Essentials plan. For example, you will benefit from 5 GB of mobile hotspot data (compared to 3 GB in Essentials), along with data coverage and text messaging while abroad.

T-Mobile Magenta MAX 55+

Running $ 45 a month on two lines, this is the only senior plan from T-Mobile that offers 4K UHD streaming. Plus, you’ll get a huge 40GB of mobile hotspot data distribution and unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi.

Verizon 55+ Florida Plan

You will need to be a resident of Florida, but you can get unlimited 4G LTE data, calls and text messages for $ 60 a month. The plan is limited to two lines, but also comes with an unlimited mobile hotspot and streaming DVD quality. It works on Verizon’s massive network, so you’ll get coverage from almost anywhere in the country.

AT&T Senior Nation Plan

Technically, this is not a mobile phone plan, but AT & T’s plan for the elderly is a unique option for the elderly. It costs only $ 30 a month and is limited to basic phones only (meaning no smartphones or tablets). However, it comes with unlimited calls throughout the country to AT&T Mobility customers, along with 200 minutes at any time and 500 nights and minutes on weekends.

Does your loved one need a plan for a senior cell phone?

The truth is that the plan for a senior mobile phone is not a necessity in today’s competitive market. With so many great promotions for standard family and unlimited plans, there are many ways to save money without winning an adult discount. Of course, if you don’t mind counting the numbers and skipping a few hoops, you can save a few bucks each month with a 55+ plan.

The best way to find out if a senior plan is right for you is to compare the above options with your current plan. Compare your needs with the coverage provided by the best adult plans, then compare your monthly bill with the price per line of your favorite senior plan. If you notice a large discrepancy, then it may be time to sign up for the senior discount option.
