Democrats in the House of Representatives have united like never before

Ron Braunstein“It may be a cold comfort as violent by-elections approach, but Democrats in the House of Representatives have achieved a modern milestone in this legislative session, which is crystallizing a fundamental transformation in the work of Congress.

“Working with a majority as a razor, Democrats in the House of Representatives recorded the highest level of party unity in the votes that each party has reached in at least 50 years.

Democrats in the House of Representatives have passed legislation on almost every element of their party’s list of priorities, from a broad package to build better investment and social assistance to bills setting a national minimum minimum for voting and abortion to key proposals for arms control, legalization of large groups of undocumented immigrants and ambitious police reform – with votes against no more than two of their members and often opposition from just one or none.
