No one ever sets out to make a bad movie, but not every blockbuster is destined to be a success. When it was first announced that Lionsgate was developing a Hellboy reboot starring David Harbor (Strange things), fans who were hoping for a third Guillermo del Toro film were less than thrilled. The Hellboy reboot was a critical and commercial failure, and David Harbor said GQ that he contacted Ryan Reynolds to ask for advice on how to survive a box office bomb.
David Harbor was in the midst of the huge success of Strange things when he signed up to play Hellboy in the reboot movie. Very quickly, Harbor realized that the project would face an uphill battle.
It was a very difficult experience because I wanted a lot from him. i really like it [Mike Mignola, Hellboy creator], I like this character. And as soon as it started, even when it was announced, I realized that people didn’t want this character to be reinvented. I was very naive and optimistic about what we were going to do.
As we know, the critics weren’t kind to the Hellboy reboot, so David Harbor called on Ryan Reynolds, who had his own unpleasant experience with a comic Green lantern. “I know him a little“Harbour explained to GQ. “I called him and I was like, Hey man, I just need to know something. You know Green lantern? Big fail for you. What the hell is that because I think I’m going to hit him right now. Will I be okay Will I survive this?Harbor didn’t mention what Reynolds said, just to say it wascute“for that.
David Harbor can currently be seen in fourth season on Strange things now streaming on Netflix. DoJ Hellboy (h Green lantern for that matter) does it deserve the hit it got?
