Avalanche buy Lightning 7-0; took a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup finals

On saturday night Colorado Avelanch smashed Tampa Bay Lightning Game 27-0 to take a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup final.

After an exciting 4-3 overtime victory over Lightning in match 1 on Wednesday, Avalanche led early match 2.

Five Avalanche players scored goals on Saturday night, led by two goals each from Valery Nichushkin and Kale Makar.

Josh Manson, Andre Burakowski and Darren Helm also scored for Avalanche.

Avalanche goalkeeper Darcy Kumper made 16 saves, winning the break between the tubes.

At the other end of the ice, Andrei Vasilevsky of Tampa Bay struggled, making just 23 saves from 30 strikes for Colorado.

Avalanche took the lead less than three minutes after game 2 when Nichushkin scored a power play goal at 2:54 of the first period. Manson and Burakowski increased Avalanche’s lead before the end of the period, scoring at 7:55 and 13:52, giving Colorado a 3-0 lead early in the second period.

Less than five minutes after the second period, Nichushkin turned on the light at 4:51 for his second goal of the evening.

Helm scored at the end of the second (16:26), leading Avalanche 5-0 in the intermission.

Avalanche’s dominance continued in the third period, underlined by two goals from Makar. At the start of the third, Makar scored short at 2:07 before closing game 2 with a goal for Powerplay at 9:49.

The Stanley Cup Finals continue Monday with Game 3 in Tampa Bay at 8 p.m.
