A state police investigator was involved in a shooting in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Virginia – State police are investigating a shooting involving an officer that occurred Sunday morning.

Portsmouth police say they responded around 11:28 a.m. to a service call near Block 2300 on Greenwood Drive.

Police said a man brandished a sharp object at a Portsmouth police officer at the scene. The officer shot the man and he was seriously injured. The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses talked to us about what they saw happening.

“The officer pulled the electric shock and told him to let it go, kept telling him to let it go, but then he didn’t, so he hit him about two or three times,” said John Ray, a witness. “He didn’t do it, the man said hey, do it again, it won’t bother me at all, then he turned around and just kept attacking the cop and he decided to run to him and he almost swung at him with him while the cop he just didn’t start shooting at him. “

News 3 received another eyewitness video showing the man climbing to the front door of a neighbor’s home and then taking things off the porch. The video also shows him eventually walking down the street with eyewitnesses who say he is a barbecue fork.
