A Brooklyn dad celebrates a new life after a triple organ transplant

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) – Father’s Day has just become much sweeter for a father from Brooklyn, who received not one but three new organs in March.

Steve Quinn had to enjoy Father’s Day with his daughter at 1 and a half and his partner Sarah Pelky – the gift of being together was one he wasn’t sure he would have.

Thanks to a generous donor, Quinn received a new heart, new lungs and a new kidney in March. All the organs were taken over by his body and now he is getting stronger with each passing day. NYU Langone performed the successful all-day operation.

Quinn was 23 years old when he was diagnosed with Goodpasture’s syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease that attacks and closes his heart and kidneys. He now has a new set of healthy organs so he can chase his young child and watch her grow. They can achieve all the stages together.

“Every day I’m here to hang out here is Father’s Day. I’m so grateful for this selfless gift they gave me, “Quinn said.

“This Father’s Day is very special – I am so grateful that he is here and has many more years together,” added Pelki.

Quinn says he’s been sick for more than half his life, so it’s hard to remember what it was like to catch your breath, go for a long walk, and have energy. He loves every new beat of his strong heart – something we all take for granted.
